LONDON: 250 of Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists were smuggled out of Raqqa in Syria last month as part of a deal struck by the US and UK armed forces, a media investigation has claimed.
ISIS fighters and their families were covertly evacuated by American, British and local Kurdish forces from the de facto capital of the terrorist group after it was bombarded in October according to a BBC documentary titled 'Raqqa's Dirty Secret'.

In light of the BBC investigation, the US-led coalition fighting in Syria admits the part it played in the deal.
"We didn't want anyone to leave. But this goes to the heart of our strategy, 'By, with and through' local leaders on the ground. It comes down to Syrians - they are the ones fighting and dying, they get to make the decisions regarding operations," Colonel Ryan Dillon, spokesperson for Operation Inherent Resolve, the Western coalition against ISIS, was quoted as saying.
He maintains that while a Western officer was present for the negotiations, they didn't take an "active part" in the discussions and that only four foreign fighters were allowed to leave in the convoy and they are now in SDF custody.

According to the report, the deal to free the ISIS fighters was about maintaining good relations between Kurds leading the fight and Arab communities who surround them. It was also about minimising casualties.
"ISIS was well dug in at the city's hospital and stadium. Any effort to dislodge it head-on would have been bloody and prolonged," the BBC report said.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:40 A.M.) – Some Russian geopolitical analysts argue that United States President Donald Trump should launch an investigation into the alleged evacuation of ISIS commanders by the US military from Syria’s Deir Ezzor province, an event which is said to have taken place two days ago.

The Russian experts made reference to the evacuation deals made between US and ISIS in Raqqa earlier this year.

These same Russian analysts are now convinced that the alleged air evacuation of up to 20 ISIS commanders by the US from Deir Ezzor is “almost 100-percent true.”

In any case, the US-led anti-ISIS coalition has dismissed the allegations against it.

The rumor began when a Russian military-diplomatic source supposedly told the Sputnik news agency that a US Air Force plane had evacuated ISIS battlefield leaders from the city of Deir Ezzor.

Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of Russia’s Natsionalnaya Oborona (National Defense) magazine and Franz Klintsevich, first deputy chairman of the Russian Upper House’s Defense and Security Committee, are both convinced that the alleged evacuation did take place, with the former saying to Sputnik that “we do not need any comments from the CIA or the Pentagon,” believing it to be that obvious.
