Su-30MKI impressed Russia a lot. India was using a kind of hybrid fighter.

With too many advantages over standard Su-30. Even Chinese Su-30MKK is not as good as Su-30MKI.
This is the reason why Russia developed their own Su-30SM based on MKI.

Things to be noted here that Su-30SM has similarities with Su-30MKI in many things like radar,
but it also takes inspiration from Su-35, the top of the line 4.5 generation Flanker.

Engines of the Su-30SM are more economical and suitable for Russian operations.
It has much advanced missile inventory like RVV-SD and R-27AE BVRAAMs.

But Su-30MKI already offers IAF what it needs.

An air superiority aircraft with long range radar and manuverability.
And most important, it is now battle proven (yeah in defensive role but it is proven) and trustworthy.
Every issue will be solved with time.
